Practitioners

I decided to add a page devoted to practitioners because we spent a lot of time searching for someone, anyone, who could help us.  We found several different types of practitioners and they all gave us the hope we needed at the time.  From them we not only received hope, but also the strength to keep persevering in finding an answer about how to help Kate.

Chiropractic Medicine and an Introduction to Digestive Enzymes

The first practitioner was saw was a local chiropractor who also worked with infants.  Kate was about ten months old.  I brought her there in the hopes that with a few adjustments, she'd sleep again.

During our first visit to the doctor my husband, my older daughter, Kate and I sat in his office and talked.  After a quick examination, he did not think that Kate needed an adjustment.  We told him about Kate's reflux, her sleeplessness and her allergy symptoms.

I'm sure this man could see the exhaustion in all of us and he asked if he could pray for Kate.  Of course we said yes and I assumed he'd privately pray for her later that day or in the privacy of his home that night.

This man got quiet, bowed his head and prayed out loud for Kate, for her sister, for my husband and me.  I sobbed.

After the prayer this man told us that what we were about to hear may be surprising but to hear him out.  He proceeded to explain how applied kinesiology (muscle testing) works.  He explained that everything has energy and that  by testing certain foods we'd find out if these foods made Kate's energy weak or strong.

While Kate sat in my lap, I held a metal rod to her skin.  This rod was attached to a metal plate upon which items and foods were placed.  Then, using my thumb and forefinger, I held them together in an "okay" sign and he pulled them apart with great force or with ease, depending upon the item placed upon the metal plate.

Later that week we brought in a variety of food samples all in ziplock bags to be tested.  Some were foods I was eating, others were foods that Kate was eating herself, since she had just begun solids.  At this point I was still doing an elimination diet, and studying my food logs.  I was eating only turkey, rice and broccoli.  Ironically, both rice and broccoli turned up on the "bad list" of foods that made Kate's energy "go weak."

My body needed sleep desperately, but I also needed nourishment so this was good news to me. I went home and continued to eat things I "thought" Kate did not react to.

We visited this chiropractor a couple of times a week for the next two or three weeks. Muscle testing revealed that the root of Kate's troubles lied in her stomach.  We did not see any improvement in Kate's sleep and the muscle testing showed conflicting results on the food samples.

As fate would have it, it was during this time that Kate's pediatric allergist called with her RAST test results and said she was "highly allergic" to wheat/gluten.  Muscle testing did not reveal this.

I will be forever grateful to this practitioner for explaining how digestive enzymes work and for giving us our first jar to take home.  This set me off on a whole new path of research and fact finding.

Craniosacral Therapy

When Kate was about 15 months old she began having craniosacral therapy sessions with a wonderful woman named Janice who is also a lymph specialist.  Somewhere around this time we had another hair test done with the same results.  I did not mention the toxicity to Janice until several months later.  Kate responded to these sessions at first by sleeping terribly for two to three days afterward, and then with better sleeping afterward.

The lymph system is key in helping the body rid itself of toxic substances.  The CST helped Kate's lymph system get going again and also helped with teething pain.

When Janice first saw Kate she remarked at how "tight" she was in the front of her head.  I told Janice about Kate's digestive issues but she just kept coming back to her head and the frontal area.

Eventually, I felt comfortable enough with Janice to tell her about Kate's toxicity and Janice responded by telling me of another patient (an adult) that she worked with who also had mercury toxicity.

It was also during this time that I finally started giving Kate liquid zeolite as a chelator.  I had heard so many things about it and had researched it for months when I finally decided to try it.  This zeolite made an immediate difference in Kate's skin tone and the brightness of her eyes and even helped her sleep improve slightly.  I did not tell Janice about this because I wanted to see what changes she would notice.  We were about 4 weeks between sessions at this point.  When Janice came back for the first time to see Kate after we started the zeolite she was amazed at what she found.

We stopped Kate's CST sessions because we had made so much progress but I still use the techniques Janice taught me and hope to take a class with her one day.

Medical Intuitive

I learned about this woman from another mom I met on an internet board devoted to gut healing.  I spoke to Allorah twice over the telephone, the first time just after I received Kate's first hair test results.  I was surprised and relieved to find that Allorah knew all about mercury toxicity and about chelating.  She gave me a long list of suggestions on what to give Kate to help.  I did not follow her recommendations until many months later when I looked through the notes from this conversation.  It was then that I began giving Kate liquid zeolite (which helped almost immediately.)  Allorah told me at that time that Kate needed a good amino acid supplement.  Turns out, this is what her current DAN! doctor prescribed and it is doing wonders for Kate.

There are other marvelous things that I can say about Allorah, but the most impressive was that she pegged exactly the things Kate needed with almost no background about her at all.

I spoke to Allorah the last time just before my initial consult with Kate's current doctor.  She "saw" this man being exactly what Kate needed and even went so far as to say that Kate and he know each other on a spiritual level.

I can say, that the moment I spoke to this man (and I've never met him in person), I felt relief and real hope for the very first time.  I intuitively knew that he was the doctor we needed.  And it has turned out to be true.  Allorah knew these things and more.

Biological Dentistry

I found a dentist who is also a member of IAOMT close to my home through a friend of mine.  I wasn't quite sure that the dental work my previous dentist did was that sound and I wanted to be checked.  One of my amalgams that was removed and replaced felt a little funny and I was due for a cleaning anyway.

During my first visit to Dr. Edwards, his assistant Karen and I talked about Kate's issues and what had happened with the my previous dental work etc.  I told her the whole story.  Dr. Edwards then came in and I retold the story to him.  We talked about Kate, about the dangers of mercury, about breastfeeding, about the amalgams I still had left, about proper protocol, about the recent conference he had attended, about diet, nutrition, chelation,  and about how I came to have all the knowledge that I did.

While I talked, this kind man quietly nodded his head and patted my knee.  Clearly, he understood.  I drove home that day and cried tears of relief and of hope.  I WAS on the right path.  I DID know what I was doing.

Beware of Pseudo-Homeopathy

While talking with some friends one day, we learned that they were seeing a chiropractor who is also a homeopathic practicioner.  These friends went on and on about how great they had been feeling since seeing this woman and told us that she is very knowledgeable about metal toxicity and chelation.

I called her immediately and made an appointment for Kate.  We went on a Saturday morning.  I had all of my paperwork with me; Kate's hair tests, some emails I had received from the maker of the zeolite drops (which I had not given Kate at this point), a list of supplements I had started giving her, and the telltale photographs that I carried with these records which showed her at her worst.

My husband signed us in and the receptionist asked why we were there.  My husband very matter of factly told her that Kate was mercury toxic.  Without batting an eye, she continued gathering our paperwork and responded with, "Well, you're in the right place then!"

When I heard her say that I got tears in my eyes.  Everything inside me vibrated with hope and promise.  This woman would be the first person I'd found in real life that might be able to help Kate.

She came out, we chatted in the waiting area, and though I was "armed" with information, she never asked to look at any of it.  She proceeded with her own tests.

This woman studied under another homeopathic doctor for many years and they used computer software, along with a probe to test.  Similar to the technique the first chiropractor we saw used, this woman had me hold Kate on my lap, hold a metal rod to Kate's skin and then she tested Kate through me by probing certain areas of my fingers and toes.  Each time she pressed the probe, something on her computer would register.

Now I know that this sounds a bit like snake oil, but I can tell you that Kate's wheat allergy registered as did many other things about both Kate and I that this woman would not have known of.

I was open to anything at this point.

According to her results, Kate was full of mercury and other metals and she sent us home with a Vax remedy, a remedy to help remove metals, and some other things that were supposed to help Kate's digestion.  She also suggested the zeolite.

All these things helped Kate.  She started sleeping better, her skin tone changed, and her demeanor changed.  She became more "with us" for lack of a better phrase.

I began seeing this woman as well.  She gave me some remedies that made me feel better too.  Suddenly I felt more myself.   When I first saw this woman, my mind was so tired that I often couldn't finish a sentence.  It was difficult for me to put words together, and my physical body was spent too.  I am grateful to her for helping me and for helping Kate.

We brought Kate back two more times and then stopped going because I wasn't comfortable with her idea to begin chelating Kate "through" me.  I was not ready to chelate myself, ( I still had amalgams in place) and I certainly wasn't ready to start chelating Kate through me.

During this time I read all I could about homeopathic mediciine and I decided that what we needed was a "real" Classical homeopath.  Or at least I did.  I started to search for one.

I had researched DAN! doctors for many months before I actually called one.  I got some tips on who to see from one of the Yahoo groups I used to frequent.  I started with the "pioneer" Dr. Bradstreet. Nervously, I called his office on morning only to find out that they currently had a waiting list of over 500.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Over 500 families were waiting in hopeful anticipation for an appointment to see this doctor.  Read any research by this man and you will understand why he is in such demand.

Dr. Bradstreet's wonderful receptionist asked me where I lived and gave me a recommendation for another DAN! doctor in Florida.  I am grateful to this kind woman for taking the time to do this.  She certainly didn't have to.

I immediately called this next doctor's office only to find out that they, too, had a long waiting list and that we couldn't schedule an appointment until three months later.  I was disappointed, but scheduled the appointment and counted down the  weeks until we were able to go.

Kate's sleep was like a roller coaster at this point and while we'd see some glimmer of hope one week, the next she'd be waking every two hours screaming as if someone had stuck her with a knife.  I kept holding out hope for this doctor.  My mantra became, "just 10 more weeks, just 8 more weeks, just 6 more weeks . . . "

One week before our scheduled appointment, I called and left a message to confirm our appointment.  I had made our hotel reservations in the city where this doctor practiced, had planned what I needed to cook and bring with us (since being on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet eliminated the idea of eating out), and had my paperwork and research gathered and ready.

Their office called us back later that night and left us a message saying that Kate was not scheduled for that day and time, and unless our daughter's name was George so and so, we didn't have an appointment.  Period.

My heart sank.  I immediately called the woman whom I had spoken to all those weeks before (I had her cell phone #) and left her a message that was probably indecipherable through my tears.  When she called back I was crying so hard I couldn't talk to her and my husband took over.  We were then rescheduled for another eight weeks later.

I cried through the night that night.  I couldn't stop the tears.  I had put literally, all my hope into this appointment.

As it turns out, this, too was a blessing in disguise.

The snafu with the other DAN! doctor worked out quite well because I again went back to the yahoo group and found Lisa, another advocate mom of a mercury toxic child who shared with me her experience with different DAN! doctors.  Lisa and I had a couple of telephone conversations and she led me to Dr. DeMio, who actually is in Ohio but does phone  consultations.

I called DeMio's office immediately.  They too, had a three month wait.  I had heard enough good things about him to know that I had made the right decision by canceling the appointment with the other DAN! doctor and this time I knew that my wait would be worth it.

The first time I spoke with Dr. DeMio, (who asks that you call him Phil), he put me at ease and validated everything I had done thus far to help Kate.  I felt, without a shadow of a doubt, that Dr. DeMio was the one we needed for Kate, and I was right.

This brings us to today.  The last consultation I had with Dr. DeMio was completely positive and uplifiting.  Kate is healing.  I know this, my husband knows this as do people who see her regularly.  Now her blood test results are revealing the same thing.

We are waiting for results of a recent stool test and blood test for metals and I know that these results, too, will reveal that her body is eliminating the toxins on its own.  Now instead of feeling nervous anticipation before a consult, I feel hopeful anticipation because I know the results will be good ones.

Classical Homeopathy

If you have not experienced the power of homeopathic medicine through a qualified Classical homeopath, I highly suggest you find a practitioner.  Kate's homeopath is the one I consult first now.  We do telephone and email consults and rely on her as some people do their local pediatrician.  You can contact Jennifer Marks, DIHom at  grhomeopathy@sbcglobal.net.
