We are officially "on cruise control" as Dr. Demio so humorously put it.
Kate is no longer having any trouble sleeping or digesting and is
no longer taking any of her pharmaceutical supplements. At one time
Kate took at total of 21 supplements a day. Today she takes some
vitamins and extra minerals. Today Kate's supplements include, a daily
vitamin, cod liver oil, selenium, boron, taurine (for liver support),
NCD drops (which I recommend to almost anyone), folinic acid and zinc.
Kate LOVES music! Her favorite way to spend time these days is by
going to Kindermusik class and listening to her cds at home. Kate has
her own cd player and about two dozen cds. She knows the words to
every single song on all the cds and sings along in tune!
Her new musical instruments include a triangle and a drum.
Kate also enjoys going to her mommy and me gymnastics class but if
she had a choice between gymnastics or music, I have no doubt that
she'd choose music!

Do NOT let your wheat-allergic child play with playdough!
Kate got some playdough for her birthday and I
decided to let her play with it. After all, she is well past the stage
where she puts every little thing in her mouth isn't she?
This was my reasoning. She and her older sister
played with that playdough every single day. They made blue turtles
and green spaghetti and all sorts of inspired creations each day for
about a month.
Simultaneously, I had tapered off and then stopped
one of the pharmaceutical drugs Kate takes. I was following my
intuition and her lead. She didn't like "that cream" anymore and would
protest and cry each night I spread it on her shins and ankles. So I
stopped it.
Then she developed a "tic." An incessant blinking
of her eyes as if she had sand in them. One day she told me, "My eye
is broken!"
Then the red spots and dark circles appeared again. Reminiscent of her terrible allergy days when she was younger.
Kate's doctor told me to search my memory for what
she could have gotten into. She hadn't had anything to eat that was
out of the ordinary.
Suddenly, it occurred to me. PLAYDOUGH!
Sure enough, my husband told me that he had taken a
piece of the playdough out of Kate's mouth two days prior, and a few
times before then too. He hadn't considered it.
Now, I know that playdough is made from WHEAT!
That is why we hadn't had it in the house until this time. Ah well,
live and learn.
Once we removed the playdough from Kate's reach and the house altogether, her symptoms disappeared. It took almost three weeks.
In the meantime, we began the pharmaceutical cream thinking that the lack of it was causing the problems.
Two weeks ago I stopped the cream again.
Kate is fine. She has a little stuffy nose today
but she is sleeping well, and acting like your average inquisitive,
emotional, tenderhearted, two year old girl.
